Position Summary: CLC’s Strategic Litigation team is responsible for a broad portfolio of litigation matters. The team primarily litigates and provides policy advice on CLC’s Rule of Law work. This includes litigating to prevent the federal government, and especially the executive branch, from exceeding the scope of its constitutional power. For example, the team is deeply involved in cases in which the U.S. Department of Justice is demanding that states turn over Americans’ personal data. The Strategic Litigation team is also responsible for working with our Redistricting, Voting Rights, and Campaign Finance teams on matters that arise from those groups, as well as defending and promoting election reforms such as ranked choice voting. Responsibilities of the position include assessing litigation opportunities and mapping CLC’s litigation strategy, preparing pleadings, motions, and briefs, conducting discovery, and engaging in all other aspects of trial and appellate proceedings. They also include advising on federal, state and local legislation on subjects within the purview of the Strategic Litigation team, including drafting testimony and testifying as appropriate. Senior Legal Counsel and Legal Counsel are eligible to take part in CLC’s hybrid work policy. Recruiting Timeline: CLC will begin reviewing submitted applications on Monday, January 5, 2026. Responsibilities: • Conduct legal research, analysis, and writing • Establish relationships with and advise state and national partners • Represent CLC in coalitions, at public events, and in the media • Litigation responsibilities: • Identify strategic litigation opportunities in coordination with internal and external stakeholders • Manage a caseload, from pleading stage through discovery, trial, and appellate proceedings • Prepare pleadings, motions, and briefs in federal and state cases, and strategize and manage discovery process • Take and defend witness depositions, lead conferences with co-counsel, cooperating counsel, and/or opposing counsel, argue in court hearings, and examine witnesses at trial • Other duties as assigned • Some travel required Qualifications and Skills: • Legal experience required: • For Legal Counsel, at least one year (a judicial clerkship satisfies this requirement) • For Senior Legal Counsel, at least five years • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills • Demonstrated strategic judgment • Proven ability to build and maintain good working relationships with a diverse range of partners • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain legal issues to non- legal audiences • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team • Commitment to CLC’s mission Salary: 110,776 - 149,875 (Legal Counsel) or 128,078 - 183,773 (Senior Legal Counsel) Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Campaign Legal Center (CLC) is an equal opportunity employer committed to maintaining a nondiscriminatory work environment.
