Job Summary

School Bus drivers are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and related events. School bus drivers pick up students at a designated location, such as street corners or homes and drop them off at school.

Duties and Responsibilities

Transport students in a timely manner to and from school and/or school activities while following safety procedures and applicable Federal, State and Local rules and regulations.

  • Operate and safely drive a school bus in either good or adverse weather, road and traffic conditions while transporting passengers to school or special events. Comply with traffic regulations while operating vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Communicate bus rules, safety and behavior requirements to passengers; and address improper behavior immediately while using appropriate interpersonal communication skills.
  • Communicate with student's parents to solve inappropriate or unsafe behavior utilizing strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Assist students and passengers boarding and unloading the bus when necessary, including wheelchair students and adaptive equipment.
  • Inspect buses daily to identify and report deficiencies. Perform vehicle maintenance procedures such as fluid and fuel levels, tire pressure checks, clean internal and external areas, install tire chains, and any other normal daily maintenance as required.
  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
  • Responsible to know rules, regulations (Federal, State and District) and laws concerning operation of a school bus; and comply with all traffic regulations.
  • Comply with DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • Complete all records and reports timely and accurately and submit to Transportation Department.
  • Read maps, follow written and geographic directions according to route / trip logs.
  • Operation of a two-way radio.
  • Maintain cleanliness to ensure safe operating conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.

Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • Class A or B CDL, OR the ability to obtain.
  • Endorsements: Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) or as Required.
  • Ability to pass drug screen and medical examination.

  • Quality: Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and monitor own work to ensure quality.
  • Adaptability: Able to quickly adapt and respond to a rapidly changing work environment and manage competing demands in a productive manner.
  • Dependability: Demonstrated ability to consistently be at work and on time as scheduled, follow instructions, respond to management direction, and solicit feedback to improve performance.

Requirements:

This is a part time position with AM and/or PM route availability/flexibility. Routes pay a guaranteed minimum of two hours. AM routes usually run between 6:30 and 8:00. PM routes usually run between 2:45 and 4:30. 10 Route commitment preferred but not required.

There is also opportunity for extracurricular activity trips, these may be during the day, evenings or weekends.

If you have a CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements, you can start driving immediately and earn money including a sign-on bonus of $2000.00!

Do not worry if you don't have a CDL! We provide paid training and a sign-on bonus of $1000.00 once you get your CDL with proper endorsements!
