Department Overview:

The Transportation & Logistics team is responsible for originating, coordinating and executing integrated corporate banking services or investment banking propositions for its clients, working across ING’s international network and in close alignment with product partners. ING aims to differentiate itself via a combination of sector expertise, global network, and sustainability leadership.

Main Duties and Responsibilities of Role:

ING is looking for an experienced corporate banker at Director level to join our well-established London-based team and to grow the T&L Corporate Client base, with specific focus on Aviation, Logistics, Land Transport, Rail, Containers & Automotive sub-sectors. The role will be reporting to the UK Head of T&L. The ideal candidate has a track record of working for Major Investment /Wholesale banks, with 10+ years client coverage experience and seasoned influencing skills, and existing relationships in the T&L sector.

The individual is expected to have the capability, experience and gravitas to engage at the Group Treasury and C-suite level with clients, acting as deal team leader on selected transactions as required, and coordinate with other stakeholders as well as contributing effectively to the growth strategy for the T&L team and the UK region.

The corporate banker is responsible for the quality and depth of client relationships and overall financial performance of its corporate client portfolio and for the acquisition of prospective clients. Main duties and responsibilities include:

Managing and further developing existing business relationships by enhancing the product and geographical coverage Identifying and origination new business opportunities with prospective clients in accordance with the bank’s growth strategy and risk appetite Identify and monitor developments and opportunities within the UK T&L sector, in close coordination with the sub-sector leads. Continuously build knowledge on the market, competitors, products, and contribute to ING strategic initiatives. Marketing the full range of ING’s products and services to act as the bank’s representative to clients and prospects up to C-suite level Originating, leading, negotiating and closing new transactions in close cooperation with the relevant product specialists Coordinating the development of presentation material and pitches to clients leading to new mandates, providing direction and leadership to deal teams. Acting as the first point of contact for the client and relevant internal stakeholders across products and network countries Developing strategic client account plans considering client needs, business potential and appropriate risk allocation Helping achieve team income, fee, cross-buy, ESG and return targets, and achieving other financial / non-financial KPIs. Responsible for the credit quality, KYC validity and other regulatory requirements of the portfolio Developing and coordinating knowledge sharing, fostering a culture of collaboration, client focus, coaching and continuous improvement within the team. Support team head to develop team talent  and culture

Candidate Profile

Qualification/Education

  • Academic degree from a well-recognised university at a 2:1 level (or equivalent) or better
  • Fluent English language skills both written and spoken.

Experience/Knowledge

  • A minimum of 10 years of Wholesale banking experience including at least 2 years minimum as Director in relationship management/ origination,
  • Established client relationships & deal track record in the T&L Sector in the UK.
  • Proven ability to build and develop client relationships, win new business mandates, close transactions, and develop networks both internally and externally.
  • Proven execution capabilities and the ability to drive and coordinate processes end to end.
  • Good credit risk knowledge, as well as strong knowledge of Transaction Services, Financial Markets, DCM and advisory products.
  • Relevant KYC and compliance knowledge and experience.
