This is a vital public-facing role that involves extensive community engagement, from responding to complaints to providing education, presentations and enforcement when necessary. You will operate with a high degree of independence, exercising considerable judgment to assess situations and determine the appropriate response. This role requires you to navigate complex and sometimes volatile situations involving both people and animals with professionalism, compassion, and resilience.</span></p><p><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong>What will you do?</strong></span></p><ul><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Conduct proactive and reactive patrols in parks, the river valley, and other public spaces, responding to complaints and officer-initiated events</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Investigate complaints related to municipal bylaws and provincial acts, including the Public Spaces Bylaw, Traffic Bylaw, Trespass to Premises Act, and the Gaming, Liquor, & Cannabis Act</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Engage individuals, educate the public, encourage compliance, and enforce where necessary</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Investigate and assess complaints and apply appropriate discretion and enforcement actions, which may include Warnings, Violation Notices, Provincial Violation Tickets, Municipal tickets, and MGA Orders</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Gather evidence, prepare detailed reports for court, and provide clear, professional testimony in legal proceedings</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Conduct high-visibility patrols across diverse environments, utilizing specialized vehicles like quads, side-by-sides, and watercraft</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Manage complex investigations, which includes working with vulnerable populations</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Act as a critical liaison between internal City departments and external agencies such as the EPS, RCMP, Fish and Wildlife, and Transport Canada</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Perform investigative duties, report writing, maintain detailed notes in Records Management Systems, and prepare disclosure packages</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Operate various vehicles (quads, UTVs, bikes, e-bikes, etc.) and maintain knowledge of topography, trails, and extreme weather conditions</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Operate watercraft in changing currents and shoreline conditions, ensuring regulatory compliance for river enthusiasts</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Manage multiple and changing priorities while ensuring deadlines are met for operational responsibilities and projects</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Manage a variety of complex social issues, demographics, cultures, and multi-generational perspectives</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Conduct and facilitate presentations to a variety of audiences</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Identify and coordinate problem-solving initiatives with a view to "solve" rather than displace problems</span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Other duties as assigned</span></li></ul><p><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For more information, visit: </span><a href="http://edmonton.ca/enforcementofficers"><span style="color:blue;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">edmonton.ca/enforcementofficers</span></a></p> <b>Qualifications</b><br><br><ul><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Completion of a two-year diploma in Police Studies, Security, Criminology, or a related field, plus a minimum of three (3) years of strong customer service experience, including at least one (1) year of diverse law enforcement experience <strong>OR</strong></span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Completion of Grade 12 and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a recognized law enforcement environment <strong>OR</strong></span></li><li><span style="color:black;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Completion of Grade 12 and have been a serving Police Officer in Canada;
