Position Title: Marine & Yard Attendant
Pay: $18-$20 per hour commensurate with experience
Reports To: Marine & Yard Supervisor & Dockmaster and/or Senior Manager- Membership
Services
Job Status: Full-time and part-time seasonal roles available (mid-April through end of October)
Hours/Week:

  • Full-time: 30-40 hours/week with flexibility, including evenings, weekends, holidays
  • Part-time: 0-30 hours/week with flexibility, including evenings, weekends, holidays
Compensation: Competitive hourly wage, 50% off meals, paid breaks, free parking

JOB PURPOSE:
The Marine & Yard Attendant role is a seasonal role at National Yacht Club, made up of up to 4-5
summer staff who are responsible for water taxi service, harbour operations, and yard/facility
maintenance. The incumbent(s) must demonstrate a strong work ethic, work well
independently, multi-task, has a dedication to customer service, is reliable and self motived. The
incumbent reports directly to the Marine & Yard Supervisor and/or Senior Manager,
Membership Services (depending who is on-site at the time) and has a strong working
relationship with all Managers on staff.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


WATER TAXI & HARBOUR

  • Operate water taxi daily in 6-10 hours shifts, bringing members to and from their boats
in the mooring field
  • Ensure water taxi vessel is properly stocked with all safety equipment, lines, full gas
tank, motor is functional
  • Complete familiarization with dock system & swing mooring field
  • Assign visitor slips, welcome and sign-in visitors, explain rules
  • Responding to hails on VHF and DSC radios using phonetic alphabet
  • Catching boat lines
  • Ice sales and monitoring ice levels
  • Check emails and respond daily
  • Sign-out various keys to members for pump-out and cranes and club fleet
  • Check fuel in all Club boats and re-fuel
  • Perform daily dock checks to ensure boats are in correct slips, lines are tied, docks are in
safe condition, listen for water line breaks, etc
  • Perform daily check of swing mooring field
  • Clean off dinghy boat ramp as required
  • Collect weeds in basin
  • Open & close building daily
  • Other duties as assigned


FACILITY/YARD MAINTENANCE

  • Daily garbage & recycling collection around the perimeter of the Clubhouse
  • Check/replace propane at Club BBQ’s as needed
  • Daily clean-up as needed based on Club scheduled events/activities, weather, and
cleaning schedule
  • Ensure all public member spaces are re-set and presentable each morning and
throughout each day based on use
  • Keep lobby tidy
  • Lawn maintenance, power washing, weed whacking, watering plants, general
maintenance of the yard as assigned by the Site Manager and/or Marine & Yard
Supervisor
  • Be present at some events/regattas to set-up, clean-up
  • Other duties as assigned

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates with the following licenses and experience will be given priority consideration. These
certifications are required for the role, but may be obtained within the first month of
employment if not already held:
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card
  • Valid (or recently expired) Toronto Harbour License
  • VHF Radio License

Prior driving and boating experience is an asset, but we can provide training as needed.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

  • Hard working and reliable
  • Driving/boating experience would be an asset. Training provided.
  • Valid Toronto Harbour license, Pleasure Craft Operators Card, VHF Radio license would
be an asset
  • Ability to work on own with little supervision
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Ability to work independently and in group settings
  • Flexibility in working schedules
  • Excellent customer service
  • Ability to problem solve and multi-task

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Substantial time spent outdoors walking/standing
  • Substantial time spent on the water
  • Substantial time spent problem solving
