Reporting to the Manager, Applications Development the Java Software Engineer III will be part of a new team designing an application that will connect Availity’s data. The overall team of 9 will be responsible for all phases of the application build and will work closely with stakeholders on the requirements. Location: Remote US Why work on this team: • This application will revolutionize the way Availity connects and links our data and will reduce the need for additional provider inquiries • This new team has creative liberty on the design and creation of this new application Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in relevant work experience • 4+ years of progressive work experience designing business processes, process mapping, working on process improvement initiatives, and business applications system design • 4+ years developing code using Java and SQL • Experience in React and Material UI • Experience with AWS/Cloud Development, Terraform, Helm, arenaflex/CD • Experience testing and debugging business application systems and processes • Knowledge, skills, and experience to write detailed technical documentation, specifically business requirements, and functional specifications for application development • Knowledge and ability to apply OOD (Java, HTML, XML, Java Script, and Patterns) and impact to the application development process • Experience using Agile methodologies • Knowledge of database design and query language (Postgres and/or MySQL) • Experience with Apache Airflow for scheduling and monitoring data is a plus • Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a plus • Experience with data ingestion specifically with AWS EMR is a plus • Medical/healthcare industry experience is a plus • Hands on Scala programming experience is a plus What you will be doing: • Working alongside 3 other engineers to support the build of a new application • Working with stakeholders to identify and execute requirements • Mentoring other engineers on the team • Participating in code reviews • Providing input on programming or development standards • Applying the software development life cycle • Developing code that reuses subroutines or objects, is well structured, includes sufficient comments, and is easy to maintain • Writing programs, ad hoc queries, and reports • Writing technical documentation • Performing unit testing and debugging to ensure requirements are satisfied Availity culture and benefits: • Availity is a certified “Great Place to Work”, a “Best Workplaces for Technology Companies”, a “Best Workplaces for Women” and a “Best Workplaces for Millennials”! • Culture is important to us and there are many ways for you to make your mark here! • We have several Diversity & Inclusion teams and various ways to engage with fellow Availity associates. “Availadies”, “Beyond Black”, “HOLA”, “Availity Pride”, “VetAvaility” a Young Professionals Group and “She Can Code IT” a group for women in tech are some of the groups you can get involved in. • Availity is a culture of continuous learning.
