Location: Hill Air Force Base (Ogden, UT) Illumination Works is looking for an IIoT & OT Controls Engineer to support, design, implement, and maintain industrial control systems (ICS) and network infrastructure that supports plant health, maintenance and operations in a secure and efficient manner. You will bridge the gap between IT and OT, ensuring reliable and secure operations of systems such as SCADA, PLCs, HMIs, DCS, IoT gateways and brokers and related technologies. The key responsibilities of an IIoT & OT Controls Engineer include: • Ability to interface with equipment manufacturers on design, programming, and troubleshooting of PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems (e.g. Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider Electric) • Configure, monitor, and secure industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, OPC, Allen-Bradley, Fanuc, Modbus TCP, Profibus, etc.) • Support lifecycle management of OT systems, including patching, backups, and change management • Collaborate with IT, cybersecurity, and plant operations teams to ensure compliance with security policies and standards (e.g. NIST, IEC 62443) • Participate in root cause analysis of equipment or system failures • Provide technical leadership during system upgrades, migrations, or integration of new assets • Document network diagrams, control system architectures, and configuration changes • Perform risk assessments and assist in OT cybersecurity initiatives and audits • Train personnel on control systems operation and maintenance Do you have what it takes? Key skills we look for include: • Must have 3+ years of experience with industrial control systems and OT networks • Proficiency in PLC/HMI/SCADA platforms (e.g. Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Wonderware) • Ability to translate property values to OT language (Binary & Ladder Logic) • Familiarity with OT cybersecurity best practices and standards (NIST, ISA/IEC 62443) • Experience with control network architecture, segmentation, and firewall implementation • Knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, AWS) in an OT environment • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Computer Engineering, or comparable academic discipline • Certifications such as ISA/IEC 62443, GICSP, or CISSP (OT focus) are a plus • Must have or be willing to obtain Secret Clearance (this requires US citizenship) • Acceptable candidates must successfully pass a drug test and background screen About Illumination Works At Illumination Works, we know data, and we should, we’ve been doing it since we started in 2006!
