<strong>Oaks Christian School<br><br></strong><strong>Job Description<br><br></strong>Elementary School Nurse<br><br>Full-Time (10-months), Non-Exempt, Category 4<br><br>Salary commensurate with experience<br><br><strong>Reports to:</strong> Director of Medical Services<br><br><strong>Responsibilities<br><br></strong><ul><li>Exalt our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, demonstrating a Christ-like attitude in performing all work.  <br><br></li></ul><strong>Medical Care<br><br></strong><ul><li>Provide direct medical evaluations and care to students and staff regarding illness and injuries, inclusive of elementary school, middle school, high school and students that are part of the residential life dormitory. Refer students out for further assessment or follow up as necessary.</li><li>Provide medical monitoring of students on campus suffering from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions including seizures, diabetes, asthma, post-surgical conditions, anaphylaxis, and long-term injury. Communicate with parents, health care providers, teachers, and staff to facilitate special accommodations as necessary.</li><li>Recommend and administer over-the-counter medications per Oaks Christian Medical Protocols as approved by parents/guardians. Distribute prescription medications per individual student’s care plan.</li><li>Manage student’s medical conditions and medications for field trips, both single day and overnight.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Case Management<br><br></strong><ul><li>Ensure compliance of students with necessary health history, physical and immunizations for enrollment and as applicable.</li><li>Manage prescription medication. Ensure the medical provider authorizes school nurse to administer prescription medication for individual students. Manage medications to ensure availability for student. Maintain database of prescription medications that includes inventory, expirations dates, administration records, authorization forms and security. Communicate with parents regularly and update medication status as needed.</li><li>Organize and direct American Diabetic Association Diabetic Plans for all diabetic students. Maintain adequate back-up supplies in health office and monitor students as necessary. Communicate with physician, student, parent and teachers as necessary.</li><li>Support Concussion Management. Follow school protocol for care of students having either on or off campus head injuries. Refer injured students to qualified medical providers. Facilitate academic accommodations with Learning Academic Success Program Director and Deans. Communicate changes in status to teachers, deans and coaches.</li><li>Collaborate with Social Emotional Learning counselors on students with mental and emotional health issues.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Administration<br><br></strong><ul><li>Ensure compliance of every student to California Education Code Section 49403 (Required Immunizations) by compiling and managing records. Identify discrepancies and communicate with parents or healthcare practitioners as needed for follow-up.</li><li>Ensure school is prepared for medical emergencies in the event of a disaster or epidemic outbreak. Ensure adequate supplies are purchased, organized, and maintained to support the campus during a wide-scale disaster. Ensure supplies are checked regularly and up to date.</li><li>Purchase and inventory all supplies required for health office.</li><li>Coordinate scheduling requirements for health office substitutes. Orient new Substitute School Nurses. Provide continued training for all substitute staff.</li><li>Represent Oaks Christian at various school events as requested, including admissions events.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Teaching<br><br></strong><ul><li>Conduct in-service training to faculty, administrators and staff; providing medical information on various subjects related to student health.</li><li>Counsel students on proper hygiene and healthy living to prevent spread of disease on campus. </li><li>Teach student learners from within the school and outside programs, i.e. Moorpark College Nursing students<br><br></li></ul><strong>Knowledge<br><br></strong><ul><li>Familiarity of case management as it relates to students and staff in an educational setting.</li><li>Medical conditions and medical emergencies common to children and adolescents and their appropriate treatment.</li><li>Familiarity of applicable state laws concerning communicable diseases and required immunizations.</li><li>Familiarity of acceptable disaster preparedness standards and medical logistical support for a large population.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Required<br><br></strong><strong>Education and Experience:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Valid and Active California Registered Nurse License</li><li>AHA BLS CPR Healthcare Provider Card<br><br></li></ul><strong>Desirable<br><br></strong><ul><li>Experience as a school nurse</li><li>Experience in adolescent and pediatric medical care</li><li>Experience in emergency medical care</li><li>Certified CPR Instructor<br><br></li></ul><strong>Disclaimer:</strong> This position description is not intended, and should not be construed, to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions associated with the job.
