Overall Accountability

The Coordinator, Payroll Services is responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of payroll and related customer service.


Specific Accountabilities

  • Processes payroll ensuring compliance to procedures, pay cycle schedules, collective agreements, benefit contracts, School Act, provincial and federal government legislation and regulations
  • Enters payroll data and checks data interfacing from other Human Resources business units to ensure data integrity and accuracy; investigates and calculates any payroll affecting discrepancies
  • Prepares and submits Records of Employment to government agency after each payroll is processed
  • Provides service to employees and government agencies
  • Works closely with other Human Resources business units and the accounting department on all payroll related issues

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration or related field
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in full-cycle payroll processing in a large multi-union environment
  • Computerized payroll processing with PeopleSoft Human Resources/Absence Management/Payroll systems preferred
  • National Payroll Association certification as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner or Certified Payroll Manager
  • Intermediate/Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office; advanced Excel skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of legislative compliance requirements; ability to apply knowledge to daily activities
  • Ability to calculate teachers’ compensation preferred
  • Thorough understanding of pension plan rules and contribution calculations; Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund and Local Authorities Pension Plan plans preferred
  • Ability to meet multiple and tight deadlines
  • Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
