This is an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking professional who enjoys solving complex planning challenges, collaborating with varied stakeholders, and making a meaningful impact on the physical environment of the university.<br><br>In this role, the position provides Campus Planning and NCSU Colleges with expertise in planning for long-range campus development projects, campus strategic initiatives, and space analysis and management. The position works closely with other Facilities Division units and stakeholders across campus. This position may manage outside designers, may produce in-house studies, and provide space data analysis for decision-making.</span> <br><br><span><strong>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</strong><br>The work required for this role involves a high degree of complexity and requires functioning as the technical or subject matter expert. Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:<br><br><strong>Planning, Analysis, and Design</strong> </span><ul> <li>Translate the university's strategic plan into the required campus facilities to meet the plan's goals and objectives.</li> <li>Provide design solutions for a broad range of architectural, interior, and engineering planning issues essential to meet the university's physical development needs.</li> <li>Analyze, document, and develop planning projects, policies and procedures, and informal project designs to address the university's physical campus needs.</li> <li>Typical duties include:<ul> <li>Developing facilities planning and design strategies for building architecture and interior spaces.</li> <li>Developing space programs and space analysis.</li> <li>Leading architectural and space studies, including coordination with building (MEP) and lab systems analysis.</li> <li>Identifying and developing project alternative design options.</li> <li>Recommending planning and design solutions guided by the Physical Master Plan.</li> </ul> </li> </ul><span><strong>Support for the Physical Master Plan</strong></span><ul> <li>Assist in providing recommendations on implementing the Physical Master Plan focused on architecture, interior, and land use design. This is accomplished through the development of schematic designs, feasibility studies, and development plans considering the various facility components of the campus.</li> <li>Projects may also include assisting with the planning and design of: Infrastructure, Mobility support systems, ADA accessibility, and other general facilities planning and development support functions.</li> </ul><span><strong>Stakeholder Coordination and Representation</strong></span><ul> <li>Work requires considerable contact with campus leadership, as well as with architects, engineers, and other related industry professionals.</li> <li>This requires the ability to lead and assemble the appropriate stakeholders to make the highest and best decisions for the university.</li> <li>This position represents the university as an expert.</li> </ul><span><strong>Complexity of Work</strong></span><ul> <li>Work assignments may involve unique factors and be lacking in precedence on which to base decisions.</li> <li>Assignments may be technically complex as evidenced by a high number of variables.</li> <li>Work assignments are often technically complex, involving unique challenges with limited precedent, requiring a high degree of professional expertise in detailed technical procedures.</li> <li>Work is often performed independently, requiring professional knowledge of complex and/or detailed technical procedures.</li> <li>Work performed includes exercising judgment and decision- making that directly impacts life, health, safety, and/or the environment.</li> </ul><span><strong>Potential Oversight and Authority</strong></span><ul> <li>This position may be responsible for consultation, evaluation, planning, design, design review, and approval of campus development plans, buildings, utility systems, site plans, mapping, and infrastructure.</li> <li>The position may provide project management oversight.</li> <li>Responsibilities may include overseeing major campus planning efforts and managing the implementation of projects/plans according to building codes and zoning regulations, which may include approval authority.</li> <li>Work may require considerable public contact to explain planning or design projects, analysis of data, and standards. This may require appearances before campus administration, college administrations, regulatory bodies, and building committees.</li> </ul></p> <p><strong>Other Work/Responsibilities:</strong> <ul> <li>Work assignments are often technically complex, involving unique challenges with limited precedent, requiring a high degree of professional expertise in detailed technical procedures.</li> <li>Work is often performed independently requiring professional knowledge of complex and/or detailed technical procedures.</li> <li>Work may require considerable public contact to explain planning or design projects, analysis of data, and standards. This may require appearances before campus administration, college administrations, regulatory bodies, and building committees to provide consultation and design or technical assistance, and may require negotiation to determine the feasibility of project implementation.</li> <li>Work may require professional licensure or other certifications. Work performed includes exercising judgment and decision-making that directly impacts life, health, safety, and/or the environment.</li> </ul></p> <p><strong>Minimum Experience/Education:</strong> <ul><li>Bachelor's Degree in the Engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.</li></ul></p> <p><strong>Required Qualifications:</strong> <ul> <li>Strong working knowledge of architecture and/or engineering principles.</li> <li>In-depth knowledge of university planning efforts, including master planning, architectural and interior design, space programming. space planning and project development.</li> <li>Proven experience in developing planning and design strategies for varied building types.</li> <li>Influence design solutions from programmatic requirements.</li> <li>Familiarity with building codes and standards in government or university environments.</li> <li>Proficient knowledge of standard design and construction practices.</li> <li>Manage multiple projects and prioritize projects.</li> <li>Use goals to guide actions and create detailed action plans.</li> <li>Experience with capital project budgeting and cost estimation.</li> <li>Ability to evaluate, develop, and manage processes, procedures, and guidelines related to campus planning and development.</li> <li>Effective oral and written communication skills.</li> <li>Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect and interact with a variety of stakeholders and campus leadership.</li> <li>Facilitate a proactive, collaborative, and transparent process for planning and developing the campus</li> <li>Ability to proficiently operate a personal computer and a variety of software for email, word processing, spreadsheets, database & information collection.</li> </ul></p> <p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong> <ul> <li>Licensed architect or Certified Interior Designer with a minimum of five years of professional experience.</li> <li>Experience with architectural design of complex projects, strategic planning for the physical campus, and/or space planning & programming.</li> <li>Experience with university design and planning projects, either as a consultant or directly from university/institutional experience.</li> </ul></p> <p><strong>Required License or Certification:</strong> <ul> <li>Valid driver's license required.</li> <li>Valid NC driver's license required within 60 days of hire.</li> </ul></p> <p><strong>AA/EEO Statement:</strong> <br><span>NC State University is an equal opportunity employer.
